It’s always comforting to stop for a few minutes on your walk through the city to enjoy the restorative feeling of a hot coffee.

What could be better than that? Well, how about pairing it with some of your favourite snacks? Or perhaps you could delve into the local culture and indulge in some authentic flavours.

In this respect, not all places are adapted to our needs and that’s why we wanted to compile what we consider to be the best cafés and patisseries with a vegan and vegetarian variety.

A snack has never tasted so good. Enjoy our list and get a taste of Budapest.

Best Vegan and Vegetarian Cafés in Budapest

Madal Cafe – Espresso & Brew Bar

Hollán Ernő utca 3

Although they don’t specialise in vegan products, they do have options. However, we could not miss the opportunity to recommend a visit.

Their coffee is of the highest quality, as are their homemade cakes. The interior is cosy and homely, the perfect setting to enjoy a steaming hot cup of coffee.

The staff are friendly and helpful and will help you with anything you need. The location is also perfect as it is situated between two interesting points of interest in the city; the Margaret Bridge and the pinball museum, Flippermúzeum.

Among others, remember that you have another Madal at Ferenciek tere 3.

Napfényes Bakery and Pastry Store

Bajcsy-Zsilinszky útca 65

This small and cosy shop is open from 7:30 in the morning to offer you a healthy and tasty breakfast with different types of bread and pastries.

Despite opening at such an early hour, you can enjoy your breakfast as well as a small lunch, hot soup, dinner or just a midday coffee.

Their vegan products are of high quality and the warmth of their staff will make you feel at home. The location is fantastic as it will be your favourite stop on your way to Parliament. It is only a ten-minute walk away.

The Garden Studio

Paulay Ede utca 18

Vegetarian café in the very heart of the city. Between the magnificent St. Stephen’s Basilica and the magnificent Hungarian National Opera lies this charmingly personal place that is perfect for your breakfast.

In recent times they have specialised in takeaway and home delivery but still have a small indoor area where you can enjoy their wide selection of coffees as well as vegan and vegetarian food.

A place with a simple, minimalist but homely décor, thanks mainly to the staff who are an essential part of the premises.

The Garden Studio is a little gem that you should visit without hesitation and enjoy its coffees as much as its pancakes and omelettes.

Naspolya Nassolda

Káldy Gyula utca 7

They are very environmentally conscious and this is reflected in their menu. All their products, sweet and savoury, are made with organic, fair trade ingredients, which only makes everything they make taste even better.

Their coffee is of good quality and their decor seems to take you somewhere you already know. Simple but cosy.

Don’t hesitate to pay them a visit if you are on your way to discover St. Stephen’s Basilica as it is only a 5-minute walk from there. Don’t forget to order some of their cakes, because they are delicious.

Fill Good Kézműves Sütöltöde

Hollán Ernő utca 3

Small bakery offering sweet and savoury snacks. These range from international classics to the typical Hungarian ones; cinnamon rolls, rustic pizza or sourdough breads.

It does not have an interior where you can enjoy its products, but its quality is exceptional and it is well worth a visit to recharge your batteries. The bakery is located between the Margaret Bridge and the Vígszínház Theatre, seconds away on foot from both.

Ecocafe

Andrássy út 68

The name of this place could not sum up its essence better. A café that only serves organic products from fair trade.

Their environmental awareness is no different from their concept of quality and they offer great products with incredible taste. Ecocafe specialises in breakfast and brunch. Regardless of what you order (may that be their carrot cake or mozzarella sandwich with pesto), you can definitely feel the love they put into each one of their creations.

Just in case there is any doubt, their star product is coffee and they are up to date with trends and fashions as well as techniques and machinery. The cafe also has a small terrace, with tables for two, and a warm interior based on wood and light colours.
