It is time to dispel the myth that museums are boring. We can agree that museums, as a general rule, are quieter and calmer places than the rest.

However, all the beauty and the good work that their walls hold in their walls make our senses and emotions revolt and make us enjoy whatever the artistic expression that attracts us the most.

But what if we invite you to go to museums where playing is obligatory, laughing and touching everything is a necessity and where being in silence is synonymous with being bored. Let’s take a tour of the most fun, different and, why not, geeky museums in Budapest.

Different and Geeky Museums | Fun in Budapest

Museum of Sweets & Selfies (Szelfimúzeum) No.1: Origin

Paulay Ede u. 43, 1061

I don’t think anyone will be surprised when, upon entering this museum, everyone is taking selfies and no one on the premises cares whether they are taking them with or without a flash. The name is not misleading, and the Museum of Sweets & Selfies was created for all those who don’t understand a holiday without photos.

Whether for pleasure or for work, content creation needs something different and different to attract more eyes, and there is nothing like the 400 square metres of scenery, backgrounds and unicorns offered by Szelfimúzeum Nº1: Origin.

Its location is spectacular, just a few steps away from the most famous and luxurious avenue in the whole city of Budapest; Andrássy út. Moreover, it is right next to the Opera House. You’ll pass by this spot dozens of times during your days in Budapest, so why not make this fun museum another stop on your itinerary?

Museum of Sweets & Selfies (Szelfimúzeum) No.2: Bubbles

Rákóczi út 40, 1072

If you visit the first selfie museum, you’re going to have a problem; you’re going to love it. And that will lead you to want more, although that’s not really a problem at all.

They’ve already thought of everything and were so sure of the success of the first museum that opening a second location was only a matter of time before it happened. Well, that time has passed and here we have the second stop for photo lovers.

If the 400 square metres of the first stop weren’t enough for you, in this second option the decorated rooms are even more original. So much so, that we recommend you visit it avoiding a huge temptation; look for any photos of the Museum of Sweets & Selfies Nº2: Bubbles. Although being called Bubbles, you might be able to guess some of the decorations.

Museum of Illusions Budapest

Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út 3, 1065

We continue to pay tribute to our senses, although this time, instead of making them enjoy fabulous sets, we are going to make them suffer, forcing them to question their reality.

We are going to play with the sense of reality thanks to the optical effects and illusions that the Museum of Illusions Budapest presents us with.

As if it were a list of tests, the different rooms will challenge our perception of movement, as in its rotating corridor, or of reality, in its large hall of mirrors.

Have a great time, laugh and have fun like a child. And remember, it is forbidden not to touch.

Budapest Pinball Museum (Flippermúzeum)

Radnóti Miklós u. 18, 1137

We leave aside the new trends and optical illusions to take a little trip back in time. Surely there are many who remember the sounds and excitement of playing a game on a Pinball machine.

Well, imagine being able to enjoy more than 130 Pinball machines today. This interactive museum, because it forces you to interact with as many of the machines as you want to play, provides 400 square metres of fun and memorabilia.

And don’t worry about getting loose change, the entrance fee includes the chance to play all the machines. Enjoy all the models and themes in this mythical game.

Travelling Galaxy Exhibition

Kecskeméti u. 5, 1053

In a place not so, so far away, you’re going to be able to flip through all the collector’s items from one of the most famous and important sagas in the history of cinema; Star Wars.

Han Solo is missing and your mission is to find him and bring him back home. Whether you’re on the side of the Republic or the dark side, or even if you don’t know what “may the force be with you” means, you’re going to love this collection of memorabilia from the films, including several life-size figures. It’s definitely an experience.
