Halloween in Budapest

Halloween in the best Ruin Bars

If the whole city is getting ready for the big Halloween party, do you think the famous ruin bars are going to be left behind? Not at all.

The vast majority of them are gearing up for this special date, from themed parties with costumes and special decorations to unique promotions and offers that you can’t miss out on.

Even if you’re not a big party animal, there are as many types of ruin bars as there are tastes.

Among the best known and most popular is Szimpla Kert at Kazinczy u. 14. The most popular ruin bar for both locals and tourists. A visit to Szimpla is as necessary as a visit to the Parliament or the Buda Castle.

After seeing this iconic ruin bar, the others may be too small for you, but each one has a different charm. When it comes to size, though, there is one that beats the Szimpla, and that’s the Instant-Fogas Complex, at Akácfa u. 51.

More than just a dingy bar, it’s a collection of about 18 bars, each with its own style of music and décor, as well as a couple of gardens. The atmosphere here is incredible, as it becomes a meeting point for many. Just imagine what it can be like at the height of Halloween, it’s a real atmosphere.

Kőleves kert, Kőleves Vendéglő, at Kazinczy u. 37-41, is a different kind of ruin bar, both inside and out. It’s less hooligan, but still a dive bar, I warned that there are many types.

Its location in the Jewish quarter is perfect for continuing the night out, and here you can have dinner and a few drinks, knowing that they have excellent quality in everything they serve.

Halloween in Thermal Baths

The first thing you might have thought is; what am I doing in a quiet pool while the rest of the city is partying? Wrong. You don’t come here to relax, you come here to dance.

On the occasion of Halloween night, many spas open their doors until the early hours of the morning and organise parties with live DJ sessions and light shows.

One of the most popular is the Széchenyi bath, which year after year improves and expands its Halloween party, making it a tradition in the city and a completely original and fun plan for your Halloween night.

Horror Experience in Budapest

Escape rooms have ceased to be a fad and have become one of the many leisure options available in Budapest and the rest of the world.

There are as many escape rooms as you can imagine, and the horror ones abound due to the originality of the tests and decoration. But special mention should be made of those that have become more of an investment experience than an escape room.

You walk through huge rooms as if they were a passage of terror, trying to escape from a ghost or murderer. Do you dare to live an experience like this?

Sport in Halloween

Let’s move on to activities that are a lot less scary. As long as you do sport of course, because if you don’t, a race might seem like the riskiest and most dangerous thing in the world.

If you’re a runner, you’re in luck, because Budapest has a special Halloween race. It covers various distances so that the whole family, regardless of age, can take part in this special event. Here are the categories;

School Halloween race 700 m

Family Halloween Run 700 m

Halloween21 (21km) (individual and relay)

Halloween14 (14 km)

Halloween7 (7 km) (2.3 km in tunnel)

Halloween Circle 4.3 km with a 2.3 km in tunnel

Try Hard 2.2 km with 1 km in tunnel

If you have your usual running attire at hand, great, you can leave it where it is. Because this race is all about being in tune with Halloween, so dress up and get ready to have a great time.

Halloween dinner

You’ve been scared, you’ve danced, you’ve drunk and you’ve run. I think you deserve a reward. Let’s pay homage to your palate.

And when we say tribute, we don’t just say it. Budapest has several Michelin-starred restaurants. It’s an original idea, and it’s a bit of a departure from the traditional plans for this holiday.

However, any excuse is a good excuse to enjoy haute cuisine. Without festive decoration but with all the flavour. Get ready to discover new flavours and textures.

Among our favourites are Salt Restaurant at Királyi Pál u. 4, Essência Restaurant – Tiago & Éva at Sas u 17, the only restaurant with two Michelin stars, Stand at Székely Mihály utca 2, and the only one with two Michelin stars.

Halloween Accommodation

If you are looking for a scary accommodation, not because it is scary, but because of its incredible atmosphere, decoration, location and quality, don’t think twice, stop by one of the most beautiful buildings of the Kossuth Lajos u., and make yourself at home in Leo Boutique Rooms – Adults Only.
