More hours of sunshine, more degrees on the thermometer and the streets of Budapest full of people ready to discover all the secrets of the Hungarian capital and eager to have a good time.

Here we bring you a guide to the most important events and the tips we think are essential for you to make the most of the month of June on your getaway to Budapest.

June weather in Budapest

The first month of summer still brings with it some of the former, which is why we might find ourselves walking around Heroes’ Square in 25-degree weather looking for some of the best artisan ice cream in Budapest, and suddenly, that dark cloud is coming our way? Yes, and what’s more, it will dump water.

Temperatures are very pleasant, being summery at times, and it’s not surprising to find cloudy days and even occasional showers. So be prepared for anything in June, although daytime temperatures of 25 to 30 degrees are the most common.

What to do in Budapest in June

Festivals

With the arrival of the good weather, festivals appear all over the continent ready to bring us the best music and the best good vibes to enjoy the summer nights.

Fishing on Orfű

26-29/6/2024

We start our June festivals with a classic in Budapest; Fishing on Orfű. The profile of the attendees is pop and rock lovers, and the festival is known as a family-friendly festival, as it has an extensive programme with activities designed for all members of the family.

During the four days of the festival, you’ll be able to go on routes, see live shows or attend concerts by groups such as Carson Coma, Krúbi and Elephant. Come to Camping Panoráma in Orfű and enjoy with your family or friends.

Waldorfeszt

27-30/06/2024

Let’s head Törökmező area, an hour’s drive north of Budapest, where a forest hosts a festival that is designed to connect with yourself and with people who have the same vision of the world as you; take care of the environment, get in tune with nature and disconnect from the rest of the world.

All this surrounded by music, craft workshops, yoga and meditation classes and a great programme with activities to relax the body and mind.

Festive Book Week – Ünnepi Könyvhét

13-16/06/2024

We are going to leave aside the party and the music to enrich our minds. It may sound like an advertisement, but it’s true, because the next stops are cultural stops where our curiosity will be the guiding thread.

The 95th Festive Book Week will take place at the well-known Vörösmarty tér square as well as Vigadó tér and Duna-korzó. Don’t confuse this fair with the one held in September, the Budapest International Book Festival, with authors from all over the world and more visitors.

And if what you see there isn’t enough, we recommend a stroll from Vörösmarty tér to Bestsellers, a small independent bookshop at Október 6. u. 11, where you’ll find world literature in several languages.

The Night of the Museums (Múzeumok Éjszakája)

23/06/2024

The popular event of the Night of the Museums will take place on Saturday, the 22nd of June and that’s more than twenty editions already. During this afternoon and evening the museums have prepared, in addition to the usual exhibitions, a programme full of activities designed for the whole family, as well as exhibitions for this evening alone, concerts and much more.

Rosalia Wine Picnic, Festival of Rose Wines

31/05-02/06/2024

We head north of the city of Budapest, but without leaving the city centre behind. The beautiful City Park not only boasts one of the best and most beautiful spas in Budapest, and in the world, the Széchenyi Baths, but you can also enjoy the majestic Vajdahunyad Castle and just a few steps away Heroes’ Square with some of the country’s best museums around.

To all of the above, you now have to add a new must-see stop in your guidebook; the Festival of Rose Wines, just behind the Vajdahunyad Castle. Admission is free and you only have to buy a glass if you want to taste all the wines from over 50 suppliers.

For three days become a real wine taster surrounded by fresh roses of all colours. In addition, the event programme offers other activities such as typical food, workshops and activities with children. Nature, fun for everyone and wine, what more could you ask for?

Danube Carnival

7-14/07/2024

This international and multicultural festival offers both national performances, the vast majority, and performances from the rest of the world. Hungarian performances bring Hungarian folklore dances, customs and traditional clothing to the present day, showing the world its roots.

Over 25 years of history proves that this is an event that continues to motivate locals and visitors alike. It takes place at various venues around the city with the Margaret Island Open Air Stage being one of the most important. Soak up all the local culture in the most fun way; singing and dancing.

Budapest SUP: Paddle in the Danube

29/06/2024

It’s time to get some exercise, it can’t all be about dancing, eating and drinking. So if you enjoy water sports, put on your wetsuit and head to the Danube.

Once again this year, the Budapest SUP is held there, an event where hundreds of people paddle the Danube for about 15 kilometres to discover all its bridges and have a breathtaking view of some of the most essential monuments of Budapest.

Most people paddle surf, although you’ll find people crossing the river in many different ways. You can go with your own equipment or rent it from the SUP organisation. Duna Café Grill and Drink Bar is the meeting point and you will see sights such as Gellért Hill, Buda Castle, Parliament or the National Theatre among others.

Cruise the Danube

Talking about the river, all year round you can enjoy a nice boat trip on it, but the best boat trips on the Danube seem to triple in activity when the weather is good. Daytime is just as good as the night-time options, where the lights seem to enhance the beauty of some of the buildings.

Balaton Lake

With the arrival of the good weather, Lake Balaton comes alive and the most fun and lively weeks of the year begin. It’s true that it’s only a couple of hours’ drive from Budapest, but it’s well worth a short trip.

All the bars and restaurants are already open at this time of year, with a great atmosphere of people looking to have a good time and enjoy the temperature and the lake.

Stop by Kanyar Bárkonyha at 8360 Keszthely, Katona József u. 1. for a wide variety of tasty and well prepared food near Festetics Castle, or Bitang Burger & Coffee Shop at 8226 Alsóöörs, Endrődi Sándor utca 24/A, for punk music and good burgers and sandwiches. There are dozens of culinary options and all of them will be a hit.

Then spend the afternoon on one of the beaches; Vonyarcvashegy Lido Beach, Szigliget Beach or Keszthely Beach, to end a day that we promise you will be unbeatable.

Thermal Baths and Spas in Budapest

Although they can be used all year round, it seems that the arrival of summer invites us, even more, to immerse ourselves in the warm and sometimes icy waters of the best spas in Budapest

Visit the one you like best, or visit them all – from the biggest in Europe to those hidden gems, spas where the people of Budapest go to. Do as you please, but you can’t leave the Hungarian capital without enjoying one of its many spas.
